Photo Gallery | Exotic animal found roaming streets of Midtown
An exotic animal was found roaming the streets of Midtown Memphis, and it was not an escapee from the zoo.
The coatimundi was picked up Tuesday by Memphis police near McLean and Union Avenues. The animals are often referred to as Brazilian aardvarks.
It was taken to the Memphis Animal Services for protection. The owner has contacted the shelter.
This was a first for Memphis police, but not the first time a coatimundi has shown up in the city.
Animal Services received a call about another coatimuni in May, but as it turns out Archi was being kept as an exotic pet. Read more about that here.
It is perfectly legal to keep the animals at home with proper paperwork. No word on if this is the same one captured in Midtown.
