Sister Lakshmie Napagoda had a vision 15 years ago when she started up the DeNeuville Learning Center.
Most of those years she ran the center, which seeks to empower women through education, on donations and her tenacity.
The DeNeuville Learning Center, located in Midtown at 190 S. Cooper, is operated by the Sisters of the House of Good Shepherd.
The center serves more than 230 women from 39 different countries and 100 children annually.
The teaching staff offers free classes, such as GED test preparation, computer skills, and English as a Second Language for women.
Thursday night the DeNeuville Board of Directors honored its founding Executive Director with a reception at the center.
The board also introduced the incoming Executive Director, Lori Bramlett. At least 100 guests, including board members, attended.
