More than 18,000 people from across the country ran the 26.2 mile course in the Bluff City, which kicked off downtown.

Runners passed the World Famous Beale Street, the Mississippi River, Sun Studio and the National Civil Rights Museum during their run toward the finish line.

The journey ended at AutoZone Park.

It costs St. Jude 1.8 million dollars per day to offer free research and care to children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

Funds are raised from the event primarily through St. Jude Heroes, a special group of race participants who raise funds by obtaining pledges from friends and family.

More than $20 million has been raised through the St. Jude Heroes program.

This year the marathon raised $5.7 million
