New Plants

Additional improvements are planned for next year, including construction of restroom facilities on the east side of the park and a new bicycle-pedestrian entrance and trail near East Parkway according to the Commercial Appeal.

"Overton Bark"

In the spring, the "Overton Bark" dog park was completed for roughly $175,000.

Greensward

The Greensward is one of the largest open areas in Memphis. the conservancy will work to enhance park safety by installing security cameras in two new locations and by having highly visible teams of volunteers patrol the acreage,according to the Commercial Appeal..

Limestone Trail Renovation Project.

Here's a photo of the City crew pulling up asphalt. The group Park Friends led the fund-raising efforts to install a crushed-limestone surface on the jogging trail and helped with the removal of exotic plants from the forest.

The nonprofit Overton Park Conservancy began managing the park less than a year ago.

Some of the changes since then include an old-growth forest that's not overrun with invasive plants, a smoother running trail and a new dog park.

According to the Commercial Appeal, the conservancy has already spent $300,000 on upgrades and is planning to spend another$400,000 dollars to expand and renovate the playground.
