(WMC-TV) - Klondike Elementary School greeted the Shelby County Sheriff's Office with open arms and grateful hearts at a ‘Thank You’ ceremony Wednesday.
The sheriff's office, who has had a partnership with Klondike Elementary for more than 20 years, presented the school with a check worth $8,500 to go to school supplies, teaching materials, and uniforms.
Every spring the sheriff's golf committee participates in a fundraising tournament and this year, they met their goal.
Sheriff Bill Oldham could not be more pleased with the great relationship and hopes to one day raise the desired $10,000.
Klondike Principal Joyce Anderson noted that since the partnership, test scores in reading, math, and science have gone up. The attitude of the children has become more positive and there has been a greater excitement for learning.
Anderson believes that the relationship is one to last the tests of time and will stand as "friends forever more."
The Klondike "thinkers, believers and achievers" performed dances, songs and a poem expressing their immense gratitude and commitment to learning.
