Some say it's the best $5 burger you can it. Now there's a new Five Guys location in town, and they are waiting for you to get your hands on one.
Transformed from a title loans business in a yellow and red eyesore at 2100 Union Avenue, the new Five Guys is set to open their remodeled store at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Five Guys is famous for their juicy burgers and double-fried potatoes, but their menu have a wide variety of options including kosher hot dogs, bacon cheese dog, and even veggie burgers.
The burger joint has been a Washington, DC area favorite since 1986, according to Five Guys' website.
Early in 2003 owners Jerry and Janie Murrell along with the five "guys," named in loyalty to their family members, began offering franchise opportunities. In just under 18 months, Five Guys Enterprises sold options for over 300 units.
Thursday's opening will make the third location in Memphis, with the other two being in Bartlett and in East Memphis.
Last summer, Action News 5's own Andy Wise hit the Five Guys in Bartlett on Restaurant Scorecard. They received a 98 from the health center, and a high-five from Andy.
Andy's report revealed the quality of service and cleanliness at both Mid-South stores contributed to Consumer Reports naming Five Guys Burgers & Fries the best burger chain in America for take-out service. The magazine had mystery shoppers make more than 98,000 visits and to-go orders at 53 chains.
