Photo Gallery | MULYP partners with Howard University for ‘Alternative Spring Break’
The Memphis Urban League Young Professionals has partnered with fifty students from Howard University for an alternative spring break.
The program has been planted at the Memphis Urban League building this week and goes until Thursday.
Alternative Spring Break is a service-learning program in which students are challenged to discern how their unique gifts and skills can be used to meet the needs to target communities and the world at large. The inaugural program will host one hundred Memphis City School students, most from Northside high school.
“We are so excited to offer Memphis-area students the opportunity to meet students from such a prestigious university," said MULYP Youth Mentoring and Development Chair Erik Henneghan. "To best align the Memphis community for continued advancement, MULYP must bring the great ideas and fresh perspectives of the city’s young and emerging leaders to the conversations that are shaping the future of this community."

"I had already started the planning process of the education group for my ASB program in March 2012. Midway through the planning I found out that our SB was the same time as the MCS SB. Since then Erik has been awesome and the UL has been awesome in helping me to put this together, and supporting me serving as the host site," said Howard University Student and Alternative Spring Break Site Coordinator Ayanna McFarland.
