Here comes the neighborhood! Crosstown's festival is ready to go

The one-day event called MEMfix

will fill empty store fronts with businesses, include a street festival with food vendors and live performances, feature pedestrian-focused street improvements, pop-up retail and family-friendly activities.

Located near the vacant Sears building

executive director of the Memphis Regional Design Center Chooch Pickard said MEMfix is way more than a street festival, it’s an experiment to transform an urban area.

Other areas will be set to be "Memfixed"

in the future as this is a series of community events designed to rethink and activate streets. The group has not announced any set plans on what the next area will be.

For twelve hours, Saturday Nov. 10, Cleveland Street will be transformed for a neighborhood block party, to showcase how the community can thrive under new redevelopment efforts.

If you have lived in Memphis for any significant amount of time you are most likely familar with the Sears Crosstown building looming over Cleveland street.

Recently the building was home to a lighted art installation and is a constant fascination to people driving by with it's giant facade,blown out windows, and overall creepy vibe.

But this weekend local businesses, residents, and community stakeholders are hosting a street festival to "re think" the neighborhood surrounding the huge building called "MEMFIX: Cleveland Street".
