Photo Gallery | Memphis photographer puts local businesses on the map
It is not a new concept that Google Maps with Street View has the capacity to allow anyone to explore the world through 360-degree street-level images. But recently, one Memphis photographer is helping users worldwide and locally explore places in the Mid-South.
The panoramic photos for Google Business Photos are crystal clear. When looking "inside" a local music store via Google, you can nearly read the price tags and see reflections off grand pianos.
As a company that is known to be on the leading edge of technology, Certified Google Photographer Bob Guthridge said images are so pristine because of an extensive training program and high standards held by Google.
"It takes two hours to photograph for google panoramics," said Guthridge explaining the meticulous process. "Make sure they are high quality. Then I put the photos in the Google software to make sure everything flows, that the arrows point the right direction."
Guthridge saw an ad for a photographer on Craigslist last summer, and snagged the opportunity shortly after Google launched the new program.
"The Las Delicias owner opened his third location on Quince, where an old Jarrett's was located, a beautiful location. He liked the Google ads, and he was able to show all his relatives back home [Mexico] what he has accomplished here," said Guthridge.
Guthridge shared many advantages of Google's virtual tours. Tourists can browse hotels, restaurants, and other attractions in Memphis in an efficient manner.
However, there are benefits for people that live in the Mid-South, too, as Google users can take a virtual tour of new restaurant or other business before setting foot on the actual property.
"With Amro's, I drove by there a thousand times, and didn't really know what was in there. Trumpets, violins all over the walls," said Guthridge sharing how Memphians can overlook local businesses everyday.
Guthridge is one of three Certified Google Photographers in Memphis. He is also a grad student at Memphis College of Art, and has been a photographer for more than 20 years.
He has several projects in the works for Google Business Photos. Keep an eye out for them on his website here. If you would like to be a part of Google Business Photos project you are encouraged to contact Guthridge at firstname.lastname@example.org or 901-237-5559.
