Local cloth diaper event educates parents looking to help environment and save money

Local cloth diaper event educates parents looking to help environment and save money

(WMC-TV) - Have you ever considered cloth diapers?  Are the first images that pop in your head large swaths of fabric, pins and plastic pants?  If so, then you need to find out how different modern cloth diapers are now.

The modern cloth diaper systems are pin-less, easy to use and better for the environment.  Another important factor to busy parents is that modern cloth diapers are easy to wash.  The fabrics used now are soft, colorful and comfortable on the delicate skin of babies.  They are also easier on the environment.

In the United States alone, 49 million diapers per day (18 billion per year) are thrown away.  Disposable diapers go into landfills in which (under ideal conditions) it is estimated that it would take hundreds of years to decompose.   Each baby in cloth diapers will help to divert many of these diapers from municipal landfills.

Being cut from the team inspired Memphis hall of famer to write book

Being cut from the team inspired Memphis hall of famer to write book

(WMC-TV) - Memphian Wayne Booker can tell you a lot about basketball.  After all, he's been inducted into two college hall of fames.

And that goes along with the title of a new book he's written called "Two Time Hall of Fame".

If you or someone you know has ever been cut from a sports team, you will enjoy hearing how Booker proved all the doubters wrong and went on to an amazing career in sports and community involvement.

Wayne Booker says he was a good basketball player, but he got discouraged after getting cut from basketball tryouts in junior high school.

For a while, Booker focused on playing for community centers and other organizations and refused to return to school athletics. However, when persuaded by his friends and a high school P.E. teacher, Booker tried out again and made the team during his senior year…

After that he went on to college and became a two-time Hall of Fame inductee. Booker says he wrote the book “to inspire others.”

10 commandments of cell phone use

(WMC-TV) - I can help you if you're looking to rocket to the top of your little world's 'public enemy' list.

Just leave your cell phone's ringer on at church, in a movie theater or during a company meeting. That'll work.

Actually, don't do that.

How to spot fake coupons

(WMC-TV) - >$5.

That could be the official logo of coupon fraud.

Josh Elledge, founder of SavingsAngel.com and CouponIntegrity.com, said any coupon offering more than $5 off the retail price needs a second look. Elledge said that's one of the signs of a counterfeit coupon.

Other signs:

* COUPONS FOR SALE ON EBAY. Elledge said they claim you are only paying for shipping or postage, but he said you are most likely bidding on counterfeits.

* COUPONS DISTRIBUTED AS PDF (ADOBE ACROBAT) FILES VIA E-MAIL.

* LONG EXPIRATION DATES. There are legitimate coupons out there that have no expiration dates, but you must confirm they are the actual manufacturers' coupons. Elledge said the typical life of a coupon's expiration is three months.

* VALUE INCONSISTENCIES.
