Parents focus of MCS workshops

(WMC-TV) – Memphis City Schools is in the business of educating the city’s children, but the district will turn its attention to adults this weekend.

MCS will host its annual Exceptional Children Parent Summit on May 19 at 2 p.m. at Colonial Middle School.

MCS cafeterias now serving healthier meals

(WMC-TV) – A 13-minute YouTube video is highlighting some positive changes going on in cafeterias across Memphis schools.

The video was produced by a division of the American Egg Board, a group responsible for marketing eggs.

The video shows how Tony Geraci, director of Memphis City Schools’ Child Nutrition Services, has introduced fresh produce into the diet of the district’s 100,000 students.

MCS to participate in ‘Let’s Move’ fitness initiative

On Saturday, May 12 at 10 a.m., students, parents and MCS staff will participate in the district’s largest flash mob to be held simultaneously at Halle, Crump and Melrose Stadiums.

Students will also compete in various sporting events designed to motivate them about exercise.

Peabody Elementary to host international festival

On Wednesday, May 9, Peabody Elementary School will host its 2012 International Studies Festival.

The festival is the culminating event for students’ international studies coursework.

Students will represent different nations through song and dance. Students and teachers will also provide dishes native to their respective nations.

This event is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Keep reading because Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-Z, wants to offer a bit of his wealth to young people who generally have zero chance when it comes to college scholarships.

Jay-Z's foundation offers help to select young people who want to improve their education and make their own contributions to the community.
