Wednesday night, "Local on the Square" kicked off its grand opening inside the old Yosemite Sam's.

"We are extremely excited to join the neighborhood and be a part of the revitalization of Overton Square," said floor manager Christopher McDaniel.

The valets in bright blue jackets bring a new feel to the corner of South Cooper and Madison, in the heart of Midtown Memphis. The restaurant also has a deck out back.

The menu boasts the same fare as the downtown Memphis sister restaurant "Local Gastropub."

The 100-year-old, nearly 6000-square-foot, two-story building has undergone extensive renovations since the Yosemite’s 39-year run at the busy intersection.

The opening comes on the brink of a revitalization of Overton Square. Construction is underway to install a water retention basin and parking lot.

"We are looking forward to meeting and getting to know our new friends and family in the Midtown area," McDaniel added.
