Sugar Bear is looking for a home

Sugar Bear is looking for a home

Sugar Bear is looking for a home.

Last Spring, Sugar Bear faced the daunting decision of leaving the safety of a highway median to rush through traffic or staying in the median scared, starving. and injured.

Thanks to HSMSC, she didn't have to make either decision.  The Highway Safety staff rescued this Boxer mix from the median and brought her to the Humane Society.

Now nearly a year old, Sugar Bear is energetic and playful.  She would be a very loyal and protective family member and would do well with lots of activity on leashed walks or jogs.  She knows basic obedience commands and could easily learn many tricks and skills in a structured environment.

Sponsored by the Anakin's Buddies program, Sugar Bear's adoption fee has already been paid for by a generous donor.

To inquire about adopting Sugar Bear or for more information, contacy the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County at (901) 937-3900.

Pets get blessings at Immaculate Conception

Get your animals all gussied up in their Sunday best and take them to The Immaculate Conception Cathedral on Oct. 3 for the annual blessing of the pets.

Here’s some background information on the celebration from a press release:

St. Francis is the patron saint for the protection of animals. He was a lover of all creation and a champion of justice. Each day, our pets bless us with unconditional love, devotion, and joy. Every year on his feast day (the day of his death in 1226,) many people of faith around the world host services where animals are blessed.

The ceremony begins at 2 p.m. and the blessings are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
