Protecting your child's ID at school

We're all so busy protecting our bank accounts, social security numbers and passwords, that we often forget a gaping weakness in our children's personal information.

It's the front office of their school.

The Federal Trade Commission recommends parents follow these suggestions to protect their children from identity theft at school:

* FIND OUT WHO IS AUTHORIZED TO HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR CHILDREN'S INFORMATION. Verify that the records are kept in a secure location.

* PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO MATERIALS SENT HOME THAT ASK FOR PERSONAL INFORMATION. Look for terms like "personally identifiable information," "directory information," and "opt-out." Before you reveal any personal information about your child, find out how it will be used, whether it will be shared, and with whom.

Local girl's Bieber dreams come true

Local girl's Bieber dreams come true

(WMC-TV) - Little Jayda, 5, who has been fighting health problems her entire life, will get to see her big crush in November, after all!

After Action News 5 shared Jadya's story, the community stepped up wanting to help the little girl see Justin Bieber.

Jayda's mother created a YouTube video explaining how hard she tried to get tickets to the Memphis concert.  Tickets sold out fast, and she said she could not afford the inflated prices the scalpers were asking for.  She was asking the community if anyone had tickets to sell for a reasonable price.

The Grizzlies called to help.  Even Action News 5 was trying to find her tickets.  But a local congressional candidate beat us all to the punch.

Dr. George Flinn, owner of 107.5 radio, gave Jayda and her mother two tickets to the show.

Jayda's mom is thankful for the outpouring of support.

The encouraging lyrics of the song reinforce the power of education. Some of the lyrics include, " Imagine me doing surgery, image me making brand new discoveries, imagine me controlling my own fate - I can be A C Wharton, I can be Bill Gates" and  "Soar like an eagle, Peabody believer."
