Memphis among the top five for birthrates

Memphis has the fourth-highest birthrate among the 100 largest US markets, according to a recent study.

The top 16 markets are all in the south and west. Leading the list is Provo, Utah, with a rate of 87 births per 1,000 women. Memphis came in fourth with a rate 54 births per 1,000 women. By contrast, Knoxville, TN ranked third from the bottom of the list, with 39 births per 1,000 women.

The top five cities in birthrate, in order, were:

  • 1. Provo, Utah (87)
  • 2. McAllen-Edinburgh, Texas (86)
  • 3. Durham, North Carolina (80)
  • 4. Memphis, Tennessee (77)
  • 5. Boise, Idaho (76)

Children’s consignment sale is now open to the public

Rhea Lana’s, Inc., an upscale children’s consignment event business, is now open for its fall sale in the greater Memphis area.  The sale will be held until Oct. 27 at 2873 Poplar Ave. in the Chickasaw Crossing Shopping Center.  Admission and parking are free.

The sale features more than 10,000 children and maternity items from more than 125 Memphis families.  These items include children’s clothing, toys, baby equipment and furniture at low prices.

The schedule for the week is:

Monday, Oct. 22, 9 a.m.  – 6 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct.  23,  9 a.m.  – 6 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct.  24,  9 a.m.  – 6 p.m.

WWE stars to visit Memphis school for anti-bullying campaign

World Wrestling Entertainment has teamed up with Fairview Middle School.

Wrestling superstars will talk to the students about bullying at a program Tuesday.

It's part of the be a STAR anti-bullying campaign.

According to the website, be a STAR is an anti-bullying alliance co-founded by The Creative Coalition and WWE. Its mission is to ensure a positive and equitable social environment for everyone regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation through grassroots efforts beginning with education and awareness.

Parents, bring your children and let's have "Parachute Fun" at The Children's Museum of Memphis. The Museum is known for it's learning experiences through play and hands-on exhibits and programs. Today, October 15, come and join the fun as you play games using a parachute. There’s a flight simulator, air traffic control tower, hot air balloon, wind tunnel, real airplane cockpit and much more.

Rhea Lana’s, Inc., an upscale children’s consignment event business, is accepting consignors for its fall sale in the greater Memphis area.  The sale will be held October 21st – 27th at 2873 Poplar Ave. in the Chickasaw Crossing Shopping Center.  Admission and parking are free.

They are looking for people to sell their gently used children's items.  If you have extra children’s items, sign up at their website and start entering the items you have for sale using their computerized system.  The last day to enter your items online is Wednesday, October 17th at 11:59 pm.

This event is also catering to moms-to-be with a special preview sale just for them.  The pre-sale is Saturday, October 20th from 6pm to 9pm, but you must bring a pass that you can get from the Rhea Lana’s website, here.
