Daughter donates part of kidney to father as the ultimate Christmas gift

Daughter donates part of kidney to father as the ultimate Christmas gift

A 23-year-old daughter wanted to give her father the ultimate Christmas gift this season.

It wasn't a tie, a coffee mug or much adored tools.

Brandy Sevier donated part of her kidney to her father, Joe.

The transplant surgery took place the morning of December 18 at Methodist Central Hospital.

Family members report both patients are resting and recovering on schedule.

Brandy felt that the most important gift to give this year was one of saving her dad.

She was the one to offer part of her kidney when the search went out without a connection or match.

Her family considers her courage, determination and cheerful hearts to be beyond her age and maturity.

Brandy is a student at the University of Memphis and works part time to support herself and family.

Her uncle, Carl Person, says the list of awards, church activities, community service and good deeds related to Nicole is long and impressive, but this one set the bar higher.

The Children’s Museum of Memphis strives to say “Yes, EVERY Child” this holiday season

This holiday season, the Children’s Museum of Memphis wants to say “Yes, EVERY Child” and provide 100 needy families with a membership to the museum so that they, too, can play to learn or learn to play again!

The "Yes, EVERY Child!" program provides free admission and memberships to those families and school groups that cannot normally afford to visit the CMOM.  No child, family or school group is every turned away due to inability to pay the admission fee.

The Children’s Museum of Memphis encourages any and all to help them "reach for the stars" with a tax-deductible gift to CMOM's "Yes, EVERY Child!" program. The museum has provided for 30 families with memberships so far this year. Their goal is to make it 100! A one year membership for a family of four is $115.
