8th annual children's theatre festival

“The greatest show on earth,” is this year’s theme for The Memphis Children’s Theatre Festival. The festival kicks off this weekend and is a family friendly event that will include crafts, dancing, games, and circus snacks. The pay-what-you-can event will take place on the campus of Rhodes College in the McCoy Theatre, May 24th and May 25th.

Annual MCS ArtsFest designed to celebrate student achievement

It's time again to celebrate the arts with the Memphis City Schools ArtsFest, now in its fourth year.

Families are encouraged to attend the event on Saturday, April 6th from 10am to 4pm at the MCS Board of Education at 2597 Avery Avenue.

ArtsFest is designed to celebrate student achievement in the arts, engage the community in supporting students and teachers, and highlight the power of arts in education.

This year you'll find examples of visual art, live theater performance, dance, band, choir, and orchestra.

The entire community is invited to participate.

There will also be activities for children and local professional art agencies on site.

This event is free to the public.

Spring Fling Eggs-travaganza! this Saturday at the CMOM!

The Children’s Museum of Memphis invites kids of all ages to have fun with the Easter Bunny on the museum's front lawn during the Spring Fling Easter Eggs-travaganza! Saturday, March 23rd from 11 am – 2 pm.

Saturday activities include games, prized egg hunts, Easter crafts, face painting, the kiddy express train, balloon animals, a petting zoo of bunnies and baby chicks, and special entertainment from popular local bands.

Parents are encouraged to bring cameras to capture that "eggs-tra" special moment when their child meets the Easter Bunny.  Egg Hunts are scheduled based upon ages: 2 years old and under at 11:30 am; 3 to 6 year olds at 12:00 pm; 6 to 9 year olds at 12:30 pm; 10 to 12 year olds at 1:00 pm.

Advance tickets are available for $5 for museum members and $7 for non-members. Tickets at the door are $10 per person. Admission to the museum is NOT included in the event price. Space is limited so advance reservations are encouraged.

Permission granted to “KICK BUTTS”!

The Shelby County Health Department (SCHD), in collaboration with other local organizations, will encourage youth to take a stand against big tobacco companies and educate their peers about the importance of not smoking on Kick Butts Day, Wednesday, March 20.

Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism which empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against big tobacco companies. Health officials want to raise awareness of the tobacco problem, encourage youth to stay tobacco-free and urge strong action to protect kids from tobacco.

Representatives from the health department will be at the following locations on Wednesday, March 20, to distribute information and tips on smoking cessation:

1 p.m.

Memphis Rock-n-Romp Announces 2013 Schedule

Memphis Rock-n-Romp, a group that puts on family-friendly concerts, announced its 2013 schedule.

Shows will be:

  • April 13 at Mud Island
  • May 19 at Rhodes College
  • June 9 at Young Ave. Deli
  • August 10 at Bridges
  • September 21 at the Corn Maze
  • November 2 at Overton Park.

The events are specifically geared toward people with children in tow. A $5 per person donation to cover expenses, food and beer is encouraged.
