Four former Schnucks reopen as Kroger stores | News
(WMC-TV) - Shoppers lined up early Sunday as four former Schnucks stores reopened as Kroger stores.
At the new Midtown Memphis Kroger location, shoppers loaded up.
"I live in Midtown and I shop at use to be Schnucks and now I'm shopping at Kroger," said shopper Edward Pigues. "I am a Kroger and Schnucks shopper."
"It's convenient for me," said shopper Adele Landers. "I live in Midtown, go to church Downtown, and it's right on my track back home."
On opening day, Kroger managers rolled out the red carpet.
"They gave my daughter and I balloons and candy, free doughnut samples," said shopper Stephanie Summers. "Just a very friendly staff."
Some Midtown residents said they were shocked when they first heard Schnucks was leaving.
"We would have to drive a significant distance if this store wasn't here," said Summers.
While Action News 5 cameras were not allowed inside, shoppers said they liked the new Kroger store.
Some shoppers said they were concerned about what will happen to employees who once worked at Schnucks.
"Since the conversion, I think I recognize one of the cashiers but none other," said Landers.
