(WMC-TV) – The University of Memphis is teaming up with Apple to help rid your house off all the old electronic junk that’s piling up.

The school and Apple are co-hosting an e-recycling event on the University of Memphis campus on May 18 and 19.

Get EnergySmart @ Your Library is a two-hour workshop that offer practical tips and hands-on instructions on better ways to conserve energy. Attendees will leave Get EnergySmart sessions with a tote valued at $50 that includes gadgets and tools to complete simple do-it-yourself projects that will help save money and energy.

Earth Day 5K Run

The Earth Day 5K Run will be held April 22, at 2:00 P.M., at Shelby Farms Park.  You can experience a new 5K course, with proceeds benefitting the park.  Dress in an "Eco-themed" costume and compete for prizes.  After the run, you can take part in a project to benefit the park, such as tree planting, or trail clean up.  You can register for the run at earthday5k.racesonline.com

Memphis chosen as a "Green Lane" city, milestone for our livability effort

Memphis chosen as a "Green Lane" city, milestone for our livability effort

Last week was a milestone for Memphis livability as our city was one of six cities picked by the Bikes Belong Foundation for its Green Lane Project, an effort to fast-track physically protected bikeway designs.

The six cities were chosen from a pool of 42 city applications.

SC Head Start Sponsors Free Health Fair

Shelby County Head Start is sponsoring a free Community Health Fair on Monday January 16, 9:00-1:00 pm, at the Hollywood Community Center located at 1560 North Hollywood.

Families are invited to meet representatives of several social service agencies which include the medical field, law enforcement agencies and the military.  Students from the Soulsville Charter School will provide entertainment.  Several area barbers will give free haircuts and free food will be provided by area vendors.
