Police admit to upping enforcement on Sam Cooper | Crime
Cameras are not the only thing catching speeders on Sam Cooper Boulevard. Memphis police admit to upping enforcement.
Director Toney Armstrong says the increased presence is the result of speeding complaints not an effort to collect fines.
"People think we have quotas and police always writing tickets. Believe it or not, it's one of the most difficult things to get officers to do because they would much rather do other things," said Armstrong.
Police write tens of thousands of speeding tickets every year, and the city council recently approved the installation of speed-detecting cameras.
