First Church celebrates Scout Sunday

First Church celebrates Scout Sunday

Boy Scouts showed their spirit by wearing their uniform to church last Sunday.

First United Methodist Church members Don Canestrari, 80, and Chase Shepherd, 10, discovered they had Scouting in common when they held out their hands to one another and performed the special Scout handshake.

The Scout Sunday tradition was started in the mid 1940's to make people in church aware of Scouting, and to allow Scouts to live out parts of what is pledged each week. The Scout Law says that a "Scout is Reverent" and the Scouts of all ages promise to do their "Duty to God".  These values strengthen youth character in their family, community and faith.

For more information, contact your area church, or visit the Chickasaw Council's Thunderbird District. or the national scouting website.

hand-off a football in the college ranks, they will accomplish far reaching goals that will have a profound impact on the lives of those unable to fend for themselves.
