(WMC-TV) - The revitalization of Overton Square is still in the works but people and events are already taking over and the area will be buzzing with activity this weekend.

House of Mtenzi holds annual spring concert, festival

A crowd gathered in Midtown Memphis Saturday to help the homeless.

The House of Mtenzi held their annual Forgotten Souls concert and spring festival. The event offers help with food shelter and clothing.

There was also counseling on preparing to enter the work force.

"We don't want it to be just today that we're doing this to be like, 'Hey, we can give you food we can give you clothes we want to be able to help your future purposes in getting you a shelter and also a career,'" said James Branch with House of Mtenzi.

The House of Mtenzi events go on throughout the year.

Proceeds help them assist more than 300 homeless citizens of Memphis.

Annual MCS ArtsFest designed to celebrate student achievement

It's time again to celebrate the arts with the Memphis City Schools ArtsFest, now in its fourth year.

Families are encouraged to attend the event on Saturday, April 6th from 10am to 4pm at the MCS Board of Education at 2597 Avery Avenue.

ArtsFest is designed to celebrate student achievement in the arts, engage the community in supporting students and teachers, and highlight the power of arts in education.

This year you'll find examples of visual art, live theater performance, dance, band, choir, and orchestra.

The entire community is invited to participate.

There will also be activities for children and local professional art agencies on site.

This event is free to the public.
