Memphis one of America’s top 10 ‘Destinations on the Rise’ | Business
TripAdvisor, one of the world’s largest travel websites, announced its 2012 Travelers' Choice "Destinations on the Rise" awards this week.
Memphis landed the second spot on "Destinations on the Rise" in the U.S.
The award recognizes the destinations that have seen the greatest increase in positive traveler feedback and traveler interest, year-over-year.
TripAdvisor has this summary below about Memphis on their website:
Memphis is a pilgrimage for those wanting to visit the birthplace of the blues, of soul and of rock 'n' roll. On Beale Street, W.C. Handy put down on paper the first written blues music.
Elvis, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash all recorded at the historic Sun Records, which is now a museum. Graceland, the second most-visited home in America, welcomes visitors from around the world who yearn for a peek into the life of "the King."
Beyond the music, Tennessee's largest city also offers much more. It has more sunny days each year than Miami, and combines southern tradition and hospitality with modern amenities. You'll enjoy great dining (be sure to sample the barbecued ribs), art galleries and exciting nightlife.
"These rising hotspots around the world are increasingly gaining the attention and admiration of travelers on TripAdvisor," said TripAdvisor chief marketing officer Barbara Messing.
"For those looking to be inspired for vacation planning for 2013, these destinations offer remarkable places to eat, stay and play,” Messing continued.
