Celebrating Memphis as a Risk City during Global Entrepreneurship Week | Business

Some say Memphis is a city that turns adversity into opportunity, and embraces risk as the path to progress.

A city that mitigates risks for today’s bold, game changing entrepreneurs so that – like FedEx, Stax and Holiday Inn – they can birth the new, drive economic growth, create jobs and change the world.

That's why LaunchMemphis recognized Memphis as a risk city this week.

LaunchMemphis concludes a week of activities for Global Entrepreneurship Week - the world's largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups and bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.

Memphis' first ever Amazing Risk Startup Challenge and Field Day will be held at Minglewood on Friday, Nov. 16 starting at 9 a.m.

Three finalists teams will be given clues, tools and intineraries that walk them through the entrepreneurial process, while sending them throughout the city to complete tasks aimed at helping them with their startups.

When the teams return to Minglewood around 3 p.m., they'll put together a five minute presentation which they'll present on stage before a panel of judges.

One of the teams will walk away with $10,000 in cash and services.

The teams are Guild Local, Screwpulp and Memphis Urban Farms.

There's also speed pitch from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. which is billed as an opportunity for people with fresh, bold ideas for a startup, initiative, nonprofit and who are ready for some creative customer discovery.

There's a two minutes pitch about your business idea, followed by three minutes of feedback from business and community leaders.

When the bell rings, you're off to the next table!

And it's free.

More than 150 entrepreneurs, businesses and nonprofits will be co-working and moving through the LaunchMemphis "toolkit."

Wifi is available and food trucks will be on hand for lunch.

Finally Friday evening, also at Minglewood and for the nominal fee of $5 at the door, the Risk City Soiree kicks off as the conclusion of Memphis's biggest Global Entrepreneurship Week to date.
