8th annual children's theatre festival

“The greatest show on earth,” is this year’s theme for The Memphis Children’s Theatre Festival. The festival kicks off this weekend and is a family friendly event that will include crafts, dancing, games, and circus snacks. The pay-what-you-can event will take place on the campus of Rhodes College in the McCoy Theatre, May 24th and May 25th.

Cooper-Young Summer concert series announced

Get ready for summer music.

Cooper-Young is just the most recent to add their list of musicians hitting the gazeebo this summer.

The concerts showcase a mix of local talent with a broad spectrum of music genres each Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in June, July and August. 

The Gazeebo is right at the intersection of Cooper and Young.

Memphis HOP launch

The Memphis HOP was unveiled today at a ceremony on Beale Street by City leaders. The bus service is operated by Blues City Tours, a 25-year-old company that leads sightseeing tours in Memphis and Tunica, MS. The HOP ON tour is sponsored by ArtsMemphis and Blues City Tours, Memphis HOP will provide easy transportation to and from some of Memphis’ premier arts and culture destinations.

The bus will operate Tuesday–Sunday, 10am.–7pm., with hourly stops at Elvis Presley’s Graceland, STAX Museum of American Soul Music, The Children’s Museum of Memphis, Memphis Pink Palace Museum, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, Memphis Zoo, Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum/Beale Street, AutoZone Park/The Peabody Memphis, National Civil Rights Museum/Blues Hall of Fame and the Metal Museum.

Registration is open for the Pink Palace Musem free summer series. The summer series includes three months of free membership access to the Pink Palace Museum, historic properties, and Lichterman Nature Center. The 24th Annual Southern Heritage Classic presented by FedEx is now available on social media.

Before now, fans of the annual game, featuring historically black football rivals Jackson State University and Tennessee State University, could learn about updates online at www.southernheritageclassic.com.

Now, fans can interact with one another about the SMC Entertainment event via Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

Established in 1990, the Southern Heritage Classic was founded by Fred Jones Jr., a veteran of the national entertainment industry.

2013 Orpheum summer movie series

2013 Orpheum summer movie series

This year the Orpheum's 2013 Summer Movie Series will commemorate the theatre’s 85th Anniversary, with a selection of films from the past eight and half decades. The series will run from June to August at the Orpheum Theatre. “As a former Malco Theatre, the Orpheum has a strong connection to movies, so we want to celebrate our history through this year’s series,” said Orpheum President and CEO Pat Halloran.

The Orpheum is also  partnering with Indie Memphis for The Summer Movie Series event. Indie Memphis will present guest speakers, film critics, and local filmmakers preceding the Friday Night Classics. Presenters will share their personal stories and experiences with these films as well as little known facts about film and film history.
