World elder abuse awareness day | Crime
June 15, 2010, has been designated World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Community Leaders have joined together to commemorate this Day by organizing an event to raise awareness about Elder Abuse issues in our community. The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day event will take place on June 15, 2010, from 9am-1pm, at Lindenwood Christian Church, 2400 Union Avenue at North Parkway.
We are pleased to announce that the event will kick off with Mayors Wharton and Ford’s proclamation that declares June 15, 2010 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day , recognizes the existence of elder abuse, and proclaims the Community’s commitment to treat seniors with respect and dignity. We invite you to join the Mayors in taking a stand against elder abuse and making the elimination of elder abuse a priority in our Community. A proclamation that has the support of the Leaders of the Community will send a strong message to the residents of Shelby County.
In an effort to educate seniors on community resources available to them, agencies, organizations and businesses that provide services to the elderly will staff booths from which they will distribute educational and informative materials to the attendees. Event organizers will be collaborating with area senior centers to provide transportation for Seniors.
