Town hall meetings focus on school consolidation

Shelby County Commissioner Henri Brooks is holding a pair of public forums to discuss the possibility that the county will have a consolidated school system.

The first meeting will be held on Jan. 13, from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Stax Museum, 926 East McLemore.

The next meeting will be held two weeks later on Jan. 27, from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Hollywood Community Center, 1560 North Hollywood.

Here’s the list of panelists that have been invited:

  • Dr. Freda Williams - Memphis City Schools board president
  • Dr. Willie W. Herenton - former Memphis Mayor
  • Deidre Malone - CEO, Carter Malone Group, former Shelby County Commissioner
  • Tomeka Hart - Memphis City Schools Board of Commissioners, CEO Memphis Urban League
  • Cardell Orin - Citizens for Better Education
  • Steve Mulroy - Shelby County Board of Commissioners
  • Dr. Lasimba Gray - Senior Pastor New Sardis MBC
  • Dr. Kenneth T. Whalum, Jr. - Memphis City Schools Board of Commissioners
  • David Pickler - Shelby County Schools Board of Education
