CBU makes history

May 4th marked a historical moment for The Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program at Christian Brothers University.  31 members of the Class of 2014 were given the traditional student consultative White Coat made possible through the support of  anonymous donors. The inaugural Physical Assistant  White Coat Ceremony was a first for Memphis and marked a rite of passage for the students from didactic classroom and lab instruction to practical clinical training. “This was a monumental event for CBU and the Memphis community which was evidenced by the number of individuals who joined us for the event,” said Dr. Mark Scott, Director of the Physician Assistant Studies Program. “The support of the program by physicians and individuals has been overwhelming and is reflective of the University’s impact on this community.

Middle school recognized for huge food bank contribution

MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) - Students and staff at Bellevue Middle School collected more food for the Mid-South Food Bank than any of the other 161 area schools participating in the "Kids Kan" food drive.

"There was 162 schools that participated in 'Kids Kan', this was number one," said David Stephens, Mid-South Food Bank.

A lot of the credit for collecting such a big number of donations goes to students like Alana Lamar.

"Because I know what it's like to be hungry," said Lamar. "I try to do my best to help somebody in that situation."

As part of Teacher Appreciation Week, the food bank thanked Bellevue teachers with a special luncheon.

Bellevue's "Kids Kan Food Drive" was started 21 years ago by teacher Margie Dow. She died several years ago, but her former colleagues are carrying on the tradition in her honor while at the same time, teaching students the best lesson they can learn.
