MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) - Overton Park is a gem in the Bluff City. This time of year, the main attraction is the Memphis Zoo. But on Free Tuesdays, neighbors say the zoo's promotion turns into a big mess.
The free day at the zoo can get a little bit crazy, and while neighbors like Sarah Newstok is fond of the fact that her street is a free parking lot, they are also fed up.
"We love to have them park here. We don't mind the traffic," said Jim Spake, who lives nearby. "Better than tearing up the lawn at the park. But yeah, there's a lot of litter problems."
"It's only the trash that's the problem," agreed Newstok.
When the crowd clears Tuesday evening, neighbors complain that there is a lot of garbage left behind.
"Cups, pizza boxes, diapers, used diapers," said Newstok.
"Those filthy diapers, and soda pop cans," added Spake, who even placed a trash can at the corner with a self-explanatory sign on each side.
