MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Don't be surprised if you see a large recording studio rolling down the interstate this weekend.

The legendary House of Blues is preparing to move one of its four Memphis studios to Nashville.

"In Nashville, we needed that other tracking space," House of Blues manager Mike Paragone said. "We needed that other facility to cater to those clients."

CVS ready to move forward with Midtown pharmacy

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - After receiving approval from the Memphis City Council to bring a new pharmacy to Midtown, officials with CVS are moving forward with their plans to build their new store.

"It's been a long battle," CVS attorney Rickey Wilkins said. "Lots of people on both sides of the issue."

The store will be built where the nearly century old Union Avenue United Methodist Church now stands.  CVS has agreed to place the pharmacy next to Cooper and closer to Union by as much as 100 feet.

"Between the two streets and given the topographical elevation changes, we know that we could accommodate and move in direction of the overlay by moving the building to the Cooper side of the street," Wilkins said.

Council approves plan for CVS Pharmacy at Union and Cooper

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The Memphis City Council has approved a plan for construction of a CVS Pharmacy at the site where a historic Midtown church now stands.

The fight to save the Union Avenue Methodist Church building was a hot topic of debate Tuesday afternoon at Memphis City Hall.

During a Memphis City Council meeting, members of Memphis Heritage asked council members to reject a CVS proposal to build a store at the corner of Union and Cooper.

"The outcry that the city council has gotten, according to what I have heard, is they've gotten more emails sent to them on this issue than any in the past ever," said June West, Director of Memphis Heritage.

To build a new pharmacy, CVS wants to demolish the former Union Avenue Methodist Church building.

"We don't fault the church at all for wanting this sale to go through so they can make money." West said. "It's a bigger thing than just the church. It's the neighborhood."

In July, the Memphis and Shelby County Office of Planning and Development and the Land Use Control Board recommended rejecting CVS's proposal.

Magic Kids helping Youth Symphony

The Magic Kids are a Memphis band who have been generating lots of buzz lately (click here, and here) and you can check them out tonight and help out some of the city's youngest musicians.

Here's what their record label has to say about the show:

To celebrate the release of Magic Kids’ debut album Memphis, the band will perform selections from the album live with the Memphis Youth Symphony at the legendary Levitt Shell in, you guessed it, Memphis. We’re told Elvis played his first show at the Levitt Shell (but we can’t remember who told us).

Tickets are five dollars and all the proceeds go to support the Youth Symphony. Doors open at 6:30 and the music starts at 7:30.
