Who are you calling “Losers?”

If you’ve driven down Madison Ave. recently, you might have wondered what this sign was about.

It’s for a movie called “Losers Take All” that’s currently shooting around the city.

Here’s the synopsis from IMDB:

Losers Take All is a comedy in which we follow "The Fingers," a fictional punk-pop band stumbling and staggering their way in the opposite direction of mainstream success, circa 1986. Fingers are faced with the unlikely opportunity of committing the ultimate indie rock sin: selling out. Do they stay true to their non-commercial DIY sound and ethos? Do they get in bed with corporate rock? Or do they simply keep getting wasted and implode into oblivion?

Normal collection schedules will resume the following week.

“Police Women of Memphis” stars visit Binghamton school

One school will have some special visitors at its first open house of the year Thursday night.

Arica Logan and Aubrey Olsen , two of the stars of TLC’s hit show “Police Women of Memphis” will visit The Neighborhood School at 6 p.m.

The school has 140 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The administration says the Binghampton school is one of just a few in the nation that has dorms for its underprivileged students. This year 15 boys and 15 girls live on campus.

“Most of the kids who go to the school haven’t had an opportunity to see law enforcement officers in a positive light,” said one of the event’s organizers Bonnie Cameron, of Republic Coffee. “This is a good chance to make them feel like they have a friend at the police department right down the street.

Both officers are based at the Tillman Station, just blocks from the school.

The Neighborhood School is located at 175 North Tillman St.

Midtowners vow to fight suburban development

Nearly a week after the Memphis City Council approved a plan to destroy an historic Midtown church, dozens of people met to examine ways the building could be saved.

CVS wants to tear down the nearly century old Union Avenue United Methodist Church so it can build a new store.

About 60 people showed up for Wednesday night’s meeting, but saving the church wasn’t the only thing on their agenda.

“People are rallying to have a voice,” said June West, the executive director of Memphis Heritage. “They want to have a say in how the commercial development in their neighborhood.”

West says they’re fighting not just to save the empty church building, but also to ensure that Midtown becomes a more pedestrian friendly area and future development supports that goal.

“It’s bigger than preservation,” she said. “If you have suburban development in Midtown, you won’t be able to stop it.”

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Memphis cyclist was severely injured Sunday by a hit-and-run driver during a charity bike ride.

For Vincent Oglesby, the long road to recovery is just beginning.  Oglesby spoke from his hospital bed Wednesday just days after a woman driving a black Toyota vehicle hit him while he was on his bicycle.

"It was just surreal, because I could feel the pain and I could feel myself being launched in the air and hitting the ground," he said.

Oglesby and other cyclists were taking part in the Midnight Classic Bike Tour.

"I like to ride and try to do it as much as I can because it's for a good cause," he said. "It helps people."
